2 October 2019: Are typed and handwritten exams equivalent?
Presenters: Elizabeth (Liz) Masterman and Jill Fresen (University of Oxford, UK)
The webinar explored research into issues surrounding a move from handwritten to typed essay-based exams. The salient issue from an academic perspective is equivalence. Taking evidence from the research literature as its starting-point, this session explored whether the cognitive processes in, and intellectual outputs of, typed exams can be considered equivalent to those of handwritten exams. Discussion also included implications for the future of exams in tertiary education.
