4 May 2022: Designing authentic exam questions

Presenter: Raechel Wight (University of Technology Sydney, Australia).

With the sudden shift to online learning from the global pandemic, many academics were faced with quickly pivoting paper exams to an online format. Academics did this as best they could in the time they had, perhaps using tools familiar to them such as multiple-choice questions or open text boxes. However, learning management systems (LMS) offer affordances that can help academics design authentic assessment tasks that are automatically marked, providing they are designed well.

Presented by an academic with extensive experience researching and designing authentic online assessments, this session will cover the process of imagining, designing and creating authentic online exams or quizzes.

Raechel was awarded a citation for "outstanding contribution to student learning in higher education" for this work at the 2021 Australian Awards for University Teaching.
